Clinical depression, also known as major depressive disorder, is a mental health condition characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in daily activities. It can affect a person's ability to function in daily life and may include symptoms such as changes in appetite, sleep disturbances, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
